Sandya, today, is a proud home maker. Belonging to a small village in Uttar Pradesh, she has brought her husband back from the brink of self destruction, started supporting her family financially and ensured that her children get proper education. Till just a few years back, there was no income coming into the house as Sandya's husband had given up trying to cultivate the1/4th hectare of land due to lack of irrigation. The debts were now close to Rs. 9000 (USD 200), and Sandya was running out of options to keep the kitchen running.

It has taken some time, but Sandya has risen: from being entrenched in poverty, to supporting her family and even making a profit close to Rs. 15750 (USD 350) in an year. From having a farmland that was non cultivable due to lack of water, to a surplus harvest, which Sandya sells regularly in the nearby market.
	This transformation came about, when one day Sandhya encountered a young lady on a bicycle. The young lady explained about the red device tied to the front of her bicycle and its simplicity in operations.  Sandya was awestruck and did not  hesitate  in  asking
questions.   She  got  all answers and a leaflet that explained about the red device- the KB Treadle Pump. A completely manually operated device, the Treadle Pump did not require support from any male member or field hands to irrigate the fields. Sandya was overjoyed and immediately took further loans to invest in a Treadle Pump. She began peddling in earnest and soon her farm was blossoming with healthy crops.
